What they do
Consultants who build the management system a certification body will audit, and who prepare you for the audit itself: ISO 9001 for quality, 14001 for environment, 45001 for safety, 27001 for information security, plus the schemes a main contractor asks for — CHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline and Cyber Essentials. Usually bought because a tender demands it.
What to check before you hire one
A consultant builds the system; a separate accredited certification body audits it, and the same firm cannot do both independently. Ask whether the certificate at the end will be UKAS accredited, because an unaccredited certificate often fails the tender it was bought for.
