Type of firm
Insurance brokers for UK employers
Employers’ liability, public liability, legal expenses and tribunal cost cover.
What they do
Brokers arranging the cover an employer must or should hold: employers’ liability (a legal requirement), public and product liability, professional indemnity, directors’ and officers’, and legal expenses cover that pays for tribunal defence. Many bundle legal expenses with an HR advice line.
What to check before you hire one
Insurance brokers must be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority — check the FCA register. Ask what the legal expenses policy actually requires of you before a claim is covered; most insist you follow their advice from the first incident.
