Type of firm

Accountants for UK employers

Year-end accounts, corporation tax, VAT and the finance side of employing people.

What they do

Accountancy practices working with employers: statutory accounts, corporation tax, VAT returns, management accounts and the director’s own tax return. Most also run payroll or work hand in glove with a bureau that does, which saves the year-end handover of figures.

What to check before you hire one

Anyone can call themselves an accountant in the UK. Membership of ICAEW, ACCA, ICAS, CIMA or AAT means a qualification, a complaints route and professional indemnity insurance behind the work. Ask which cloud software they work in day to day.
