Sponsor licence status check

Check your organisation’s listing on the register of licensed sponsors — or verify another company’s licence, A or B rating and routes.

General guidance only, not legal or immigration advice. Always confirm with GOV.UK or a regulated adviser.

Check a sponsor licence

Search the Home Office register of licensed sponsors by organisation name or town.

  • Licence type
  • A or B rating
  • Sponsorship routes

The register is published by the Home Office and updated daily. A company not appearing may trade under a different registered name.

What the sponsor register tells you

The register lists every organisation licensed to sponsor workers under the points-based system. For each sponsor it shows the town and county, whether it holds a Worker or Temporary Worker licence, its A or B rating, and the routes — such as Skilled Worker or Global Business Mobility — it can sponsor.

Why employers check the register

  • Confirm your own listing, rating and routes are correct
  • Check a company you are acquiring or merging with before a TUPE transfer
  • Verify a client, agency or supplier that places sponsored workers with you
  • See whether a rating change has been published

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a company has a sponsor licence?

Search the Home Office “Register of licensed sponsors: workers” on GOV.UK. It lists every organisation licensed to sponsor workers, with its town, licence type, rating and the routes it can sponsor. The register is updated every working day.

What does an A or B rating mean?

An A rating means the sponsor is fully licensed and can assign certificates of sponsorship. A B rating means the licence has been downgraded because of compliance concerns; the sponsor cannot assign new certificates until it completes a Home Office action plan.

Why can’t I find a company on the register?

The company may be listed under its registered legal name rather than its trading name, may be in a different town, or may not hold a licence. Organisations whose licence is revoked are removed from the register.

What should I do if my organisation’s listing is wrong?

Report the change — such as a new name or address — through the Sponsorship Management System within 20 working days. The register is updated after the Home Office processes the change.

Do I need to check the register in a takeover or TUPE transfer?

Yes. If sponsored workers are transferring to you, you need a licence covering the right routes, or must apply within 20 working days of the transfer, otherwise their permission will be cancelled.

Is the sponsor register updated daily?

Yes. The Home Office publishes an updated register every working day, so a licence that has just been granted or revoked should appear or disappear within a day or two.
